Hello Harper community,

We are excited to announce that after many months of hard work, we will be launching our brand new school website tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22.

Our new website is specially designed with our audiences in mind, with customized quick link drop downs serving the needs of families, staff and our community. Parents, by visiting the "Family" quick link, you will find how to locate information and links of interest that are most relevant and helpful to you, making for fast and easy navigation. The new website is loaded with important resources and is mobile friendly with a 100% responsive design so you can find information clearly and easily on tablet or mobile phone.

Timing of our launch

While we will officially make the transition to our new website on May 22,  it may take a few days for all devices, servers and search engines like Google to pick up our new site.  Be sure to refresh your browser and by the end of next week and you should see our new site!

Remember your Bookmarked Pages need to be updated!

While the URL to our website homepage will remain the same: harper.djusd.net, please note that any previously bookmarked sub-pages will no longer work (ie. If you bookmarked the counseling page on the old website, that URL has since changed).

We are excited to deliver to you improvements in communications and look forward to your feedback. If you have a question, comment, or suggestion related to the new site, please let us know!

On This Day in History: 1869 Transcontinental railroad completed

On this day in 1869, the presidents of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads meet in Promontory, Utah, and drive a ceremonial last spike into a rail line that connects their railroads. This made transcontinental railroad travel possible for the first time in U.S. history. No longer would western-bound travelers need to take the long and dangerous journey by wagon train, and the West would surely lose some of its wild charm with the new connection to the civilized East.

On this day in 1945, both Great Britain and the United States celebrate Victory in Europe Day. Cities in both nations, as well as formerly occupied cities in Western Europe, put out flags and banners, rejoicing in the defeat of the Nazi war machine.

Dear Parents of 9th Students, Congratulations! It is time to celebrate the achievements of your freshmen!

The annual Harper Freshmen Showcase will be held on Thursday May 16th. This is an opportunity for our 9th grade students to reflect on their time at Harper and show their growth over the past 3 years. Each student will be giving a 7-9 minute presentation in a classroom they chose this past week. Freshmen are released at 12:30 for lunch this day and their presentations will begin at 1:15 and then continue every 15 minutes until 3:30.

Parents are welcome to serve on a Showcase Panel. This requires a commitment of time from 12:30 – 3:30 pm and parents will be placed on a panel in their son or daughter’s presentation room (if requested).  If you wish to serve on a panel at the Showcase please sign up by May 3, 2019 using the following link:      http://tinyurl.com/freshmanshowcase2019signups

We would like to put snack bags together for each of the Showcase rooms. Below are slots for volunteers to provide water and either Rice Krispy treats, brownies, or goldfish/small crackers for the showcase classrooms. Please feel free to make treats or purchase similar items wherever you like but please take note of the required amounts and that they need to be individually wrapped. Please deliver the items to the Harper office by pick-up on Monday, May 13 so the bags may be assembled before the showcase on the 16th. Thank you for your consideration! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c45aba92dab9-freshman1

Please encourage your student to dress up for the Showcase Presentation, and to finish junior high in good standing.   As we get closer to the event, our program will be printed and it will list which classroom your child has chosen as their presentation location.  Programs will be available for you when you arrive on May 16th. We will take a group photo at the end of the presentations.

Friends and family members are also welcome to attend just the presentation for your son/daughter or stay and observe your son or daughter’s friends’ presentations. This is a wonderful opportunity to observe the tremendous growth our freshmen have made, and I strongly encourage you to attend this event.

We look forward to seeing you on May 16th!
