On This Day in History

  • On June 1, 1937 actor Morgan Freeman was born. Known for his distinctively smooth, deep voice, he has received Academy Award nominations for his performances in Street Smart, Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption and Invictus, and won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2005 for Million Dollar Baby.

  • On June 2, 1987 The Seattle Mariners draft Ken Griffey Jr., a 17-year-old phenom who had batted .478 in his senior high school season. He goes on to smash 630 homers and become a baseball legend.

  • On June 3, 1800, John Adams moved to Washington, DC. He was the first President to live in what later became the capital of the United States.

  • On June 4, 1889, Beno Gutenberg, the American scientist who made important discoveries about the earth's interior, was born.

  • On June 5, 1947, Secretary of State George C. Marshall, speaking at Harvard University, outlined an aid program for Europe that came to be known as the Marshall Plan.

Finals Week. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday School will be in session from 8:30am - 12:50pm.  The second period of the day begins at 9:25am. 

The final periods are 95 minutes long, bring something quiet to do when you finish your final.

Day on the Green

     The end of the school year will soon be here, which means it's almost time for our annual Day on the Green! This is a fun outdoor event for all Harper students, happening June 10 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. It includes water inflatables, games, and prizes, plus optional food and treats for purchase.  

     This school-wide event needs the Harper community support to make it happen! Volunteers are needed to help supervise the event, and prizes are needed for the various games and competitions happening that day. Please consider helping however you can!

June 8 - Regular Schedule

  • Textbook return.  Students should bring all of their textbooks and library books to school on this day to return to the library during their PE class. 


June 9 - Regular Schedule

  • Locker clean out during 7th period - Students will be cleaning out their lockers and taking all items home with them. Please come prepared with a way to transport your items. 

  • Freshman Celebration 6:30pm in the Harper Gym - We encourage 9th grade students to arrive a few minutes early to find their seats.  Parking is limited so we encourage biking, walking and carpooling if at all possible.  We look forward to celebrating with you!


June 10 - Day on the Green:

  • 8:30- 12:30 - Students will attend shortened classes following our minimum day schedule

  • 12:30-3:25 pm - Lunch and activities including bounce houses, water slides, games, food trucks and much more! Please encourage students to pack a change of clothes (no bathing suits allowed but students can wear quick dry materials), money (if they’d like to purchase anything) and sunscreen.

  • Students will remain on campus and are not allowed to leave unless they have an excused absence from a caregiver.  If your student is leaving early please send them with a note or email [email protected]


  • June 11 - Last day of School - 12pm dismissal

Club Information

Clubs
Newspaper Club - Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch in E-33. You do NOT need to be able to attend every day to be a member. 

 

GSA meets in H50 at lunch on Monday. All students are welcome to join!

 

Science Buddies meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch. It's a club for anyone interested in working together on a single science project together.

 

D&D club meets after school on Friday, seasoned players and students new to table top gaming are welcomed to join. 

Tree Harper - Planning meetings on Mondays at lunch - during the first 10 to 15 minutes. Students can bring lunches to eat during the meeting. Extra Credit for my Science 8 and Biology students. Work shifts on Fridays 3:30-5:00.  Extra Credit for my Science 8 and Biology students.

Harper Music Club - Do you like listening to music? Playing music? Or are you just a music fan?Then come to Harper music club to play fun, games and connect with other people that also enjoy music. Meeting every other Friday in J- 56  (Mr. Tobey’s room).
